Can you control a lift recliner with Alexa?

Yes. With YourVoice fitted, a power lift recliner raises your legs, sits you up and lifts you to standing when you ask it to.

Why voice, for a lift chair

A lift recliner handset usually has a pair of buttons for every motor, and on many chairs the stand-up button has to be held down for the whole lift. For someone with weak or painful hands that is hard work, and the handset has a habit of disappearing between the cushions. With voice control you just say what you want.

Which chairs it works with

YourVoice works with lift recliners from Theorem Concepts and with the K Care Alivio recliner range, as well as the Configura Pressure Care chair from Enable Lifecare. See the full list of chairs.

What you can say

  • Stand up (the lift): “Alexa, lift up”, or “Alexa, lift down” to sit back down

  • Backrest: “Alexa, back up”, or “Alexa, back down”

  • Legs (footrest): “Alexa, legs up”, or “Alexa, legs down”

  • Headrest: “Alexa, headrest up”, or “Alexa, headrest down”

  • Lumbar: “Alexa, lumbar up”, or “Alexa, lumbar down”

The longer form works too: “Alexa, raise the legs”. Chairs with a saved position respond to “Alexa, turn on save memory” to store it and “Alexa, turn on memory recall” to go back to it. Not every chair has every motor, so your command card lists the ones yours has.

To stop any movement, say “Alexa, turn off the chair”.

Safety first

  • Before saying “lift up”, put your feet on the floor and make sure the space in front of the chair is clear.

  • Keep hands, feet, pets and children clear of the chair while it moves.

  • The chair's handset keeps working, so it is always there as a back-up.

What's involved

The YourVoice module connects to the chair's control system without modifying the chair. We set it up off site, then install it, test every command and train you and your carers at home. You need Wi-Fi and an Alexa speaker near the chair.

When voice isn't the right fit

Some people's speech isn't reliably understood by Alexa, and some people simply prefer not to talk to their furniture. There are other options: see When Voice is hard: button and app options for lift chairs.

Quick answers

Can I still use the handset?

Yes. Voice is added alongside it, not instead of it.

Can YourVoice be fitted to a new chair?

Yes. If you are buying a Theorem or Alivio chair, or a Configura, mention YourVoice to the retailer or to us, so the install can be planned around delivery.
